Intrathoracic mass in a 5-month-old infant: fetus in fetu—a case report

Abstract Background The fetu in (FIF) is an extremely rare congenital condition characterized by a 2nd fetus that grows into the body of healthy twin. Its thoracic location more exceptional. Case presentation We report case intrathoracic mass 5-month-old female infant, diagnosed after assessment for respiratory distress. She underwent emergency left thoracotomy which allowed removal large thoraco-mediastinal inside membranous sac containing clear liquid mixed with vernix caseosa. was completely covered normal skin, three lobes similar to rudimentary outline head and limb. It attached single vascular pedicle. pathological examination concluded there high possibility FIF. postoperative follow-up uncomplicated, child still good clinical 5-month follow-up. Conclusion distress infant centered axial skeleton on chest x-ray CT scan may suggest diagnosis
